Custom Function Test Fixture for Industrial Ethernet Communication IC

A leading industrial automation manufacturer in Germany approached Mango Solution Technology seeking a reliable and repeatable functional testing solution for a network communication controller used in its industrial control equipment.

As production volumes increased, the customer faced challenges in verifying communication performance, signal integrity, and functional reliability during manufacturing. Manual testing methods were time-consuming and lacked consistency, creating a need for a dedicated automated test fixture capable of supporting efficient production testing.

Challenge

The device under test utilized a high-density BGA-packaged communication IC integrated into industrial networking equipment. The customer required a testing solution that could:

  • Ensure stable electrical contact for repeated testing cycles
  • Verify communication functionality and interface performance
  • Improve testing speed and manufacturing efficiency
  • Deliver consistent and repeatable test results
  • Integrate seamlessly into existing production processes
  • Support long-term operation in an industrial manufacturing environment

In addition, the fixture needed to be easy for production operators to use while maintaining high reliability throughout continuous testing operations.

Solution

Our senior fixture engineer, Mr. Kim, led the project from concept design through final implementation.

Based on the customer’s testing requirements, Mango Solution Technology developed a custom Function Test Fixture featuring:

  • High-precision test socket design for BGA package devices
  • Industrial-grade mechanical structure for long-term durability
  • Integrated communication interface verification capability
  • Dedicated network connectivity testing ports
  • Quick-lock mechanism for fast DUT loading and unloading
  • Stable signal routing design to ensure testing accuracy
  • Customized hardware and software integration for automated functional testing

The fixture was engineered to perform rapid verification of communication functionality, interface connectivity, and key operating parameters, significantly reducing test cycle time while improving overall production consistency.

Results

Following deployment, the customer achieved:

  • Reduced manual testing workload
  • Improved production throughput
  • Faster and more efficient quality verification
  • Enhanced test repeatability and reliability
  • Lower risk of field failures caused by communication-related defects
  • Improved manufacturing efficiency and product quality assurance

The solution has remained in continuous operation within the customer’s production environment and continues to support stable, high-volume manufacturing.
